From an early age, I've always been intrigued with health.
Playing sports, reading books, pursuing formal education that fed my health knowledge desire and taking on any experience that could help me better understand what "healthy" looks like and feels like.
What health was to me at age 17 was being 'skinny' and looking good, while still being able to be a good basketball and cross country athlete - a heavy emphasis on exercise, and not enough on nutrition. Not optimal but it was part of my journey.
What health looks like to me now is fuelling my body properly so I can perform well in my job as a chiropractor and CrossFit coach. Consuming the proper amount and types of food so I am fuelled for performance, but can also maintain an optimal body composition where I feel good, look good and can enjoy life.
Everything exists on a spectrum.
Where you are at on your nutrition journey is uniquely your own, but you may be asking yourself
"how can I be better?"
This blog is dedicated to broadening your perspective, adding to your knowledge, and ultimately, helping you ask better nutrition questions.
Before you dive in and search for the answer, stop and ask yourself this question:
“What is the right food for my goals? What is the wrong food?”
There is new science, new advice , new gurus everyday offering advice on nutrition.
One weeks superfood is next weeks 'toxin.'
It's so easy to get lost, frustrated, give up and turn back to what you've always ate.
Let's break it down, keep it simple, and focus on fuelling your goals.
If It FUELS Your Macros!
The difference between the 'right food' and the 'wrong food' is understanding what does and what doesn’t work for YOU, YOUR personal nutrition, YOUR personal performance, YOUR personal preference.
Even in the IIFYM world, it’s easy to jokingly indulge in a chocolate chip cookie and say, “as long as it fits!” As fun as this can be, what we really should be saying is, “as long as it fuels!”
The right food is the food that fuels your body, the way you need to fuel it. This can include anything from the “classic” health foods like spinach and chicken breast to the ones we all feel are off limits, like desserts and comfort food if need be.
So, what does this mean?
It means we need to understand what we are eating and why we are eating it!
The Macros life is not just about joining a nutrition program, working with a coach, and entering numbers into an app.
This is a real journey, a real life changing experience!
One that advocates gaining knowledge and learning about nutrition and well being, just as much as it works to help you reach your weight goal, your body fat goal, and your performance goals!

Why do you eat it?
Is it enjoyable?
These are the questions you need to be asking yourself and need to know the answers to!
